Mexirico is the fruition of a dream I had to create a place where my family and I could share with the community delicious food from both Puerto Rican and Mexican traditions. I love to cook, and had always loved to try new things. I am Puerto Rican and my family gathers every Sunday to eat. Food and food preparation is at the center of my life and family.
Before Mexirico I was a community worker, case manager, and medical interpreter and after I came to the United States, I developed friendships with neighbors and I opened my home to people from Central America, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic. We shared our food, and I quickly learned to make pupusas from El Salvador, and hand made tortillas as they do in Chiapas Mexico. I have since traveled to these countries to stay with family and friends and have brought back the recipes and authentic flavor, to match the authentic Puerto Rican flavor that comes naturally to me.
Mexirico is not only a place where my neighbors far and wide can come for authentic Mexican and Puerto Rican flavor but it also a place where cultures cross as people try the dishes of another culture.
